Job Description
Aluna Theatre is seeking an experienced Development Associate to join our team to spearhead fundraising strategy and programs. The successful applicant should have several years’ experience, preferably in the arts, and be familiar with strategies for development in the non-profit sector.

As the Development Associate you will participate in the designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that reflects Aluna Theatre’s Activities and Programming. Reporting to the Artistic Director and Artistic Producer, you will participate in the development of plans in private sector giving, as well as corporate and foundation sponsorships and grants.

As part of Aluna Theatre’s team, you will contribute to direction of the company in a positive way, working with our staff in production and marketing and our partners to fulfill the company’s vision and mission.

You will be an experience, highly organized, detail-attentive, and thrives working in a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable networking and have an entrepreneurial mindset, and confident when communicating with donors, sponsors, and prospects, and a clear communicator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Leadership in the execution of annual fundraising strategies and programs.
  • Aggressively seek new funding sources, cultivate relationships with new donors, and maintain relationships with existing donors to increase giving levels as appropriate.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities aligning the interests of the company’s programming with those of major corporate sponsors. Cultivate and steward corporate support and solicit targeted sponsorship for major exhibits and events.
  • Oversee procedures for retention of data, tracking fundraising activity, research and reporting. Maintain security and quality controls.
  • Ensure appropriate recognition and stewardship initiatives are developed and implemented to recognize and honour donor and volunteer contributions.
  • Work closely with the production and marketing staff to support programming and marketing activities.
  • Represent the company in meetings with potential and existing funders and serve as a representative for the company in the greater cultural, philanthropic, and professional communities.
  • Manage proposals, negotiations, contracts and gift agreements.
  • Identify best practices and improve internal systems and processes with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
  • Report regularly on fundraising revenue targets and achievements to the leadership

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in development/fundraising
  • 3+ years experience with event management as an asset
  • Corporate, membership, and/or major gifts experience an asset
  • Ability to effectively execute initiatives end-to-end
  • Strong understanding of the not-for-profit and charitable community in both Toronto and Canada-wide
  • Leadership mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders from all different areas of the organization – funders and donors, teammates, community members, etc.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality

Producer

Job Description

Aluna Theatre is seeking an experienced Producer to join our team to partner with Aluna Theatre’s Artistic Director and Artistic Producer in the seasonal and daily operations related to Aluna Theatre’s artistic programming.

An integral role to Aluna Theatre’s producing structure and community, the Producer will work closely with the Artistic Director and Directors and support the theatre’s short and long-term planning while upholding the company’s mission, which supports artists (creators, playwrights, directors, etc.), their voices and their practices.
You are a dedicated theatre practitioner, with an interest in supporting the artistic and administrative functions of Aluna Theatre. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, artistically engaging, and collaborative work environment.

As part of Aluna Theatre’s team, you will contribute to direction of the company in a positive way, working with our staff in production and marketing and our partners to fulfill the company’s vision and mission.

You will be an experience, highly organized, detail-attentive, and thrives working in a fast-paced environment.  You will be familiar with theatre practices in Canada, and experience working with CAEA, PACT, Contract Negotiations with partners, co producers, agents and production staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversight and implementation: Develop, maintain, and update (with company leadership) a work plan / timeline to ensure that the myriad components of Aluna’s program are completed on time, on budget, and in such a way that the artistic work is produced and presented in the best possible manner.
  • Contracting: Provide support to Aluna Leadership Team in negotiating and preparing contracts with presented artists/companies, presentation partners, venues, and other key stakeholders. Includes communications with Unions and Associations.
  • Budgeting / expense tracking: Maintain project budgets, working closely with Artistic Producer and Production Manager to ensure projections are accurate and up to date, and financials are reconciled in a timely fashion.
  • Co-ordinate with the Artistic Producer to ensure proper tracking and reporting of projects.
  • Co-ordinate with the Production Department on technical needs / costs for proposed and confirmed programming.
  • Co-ordinate creation of materials for marketing online (web page) and in print (posters and programs). May include website updates.
  • Co-ordinate with seasonal staff and venues on accessibility, ticketing, marketing, communications, volunteers, sponsorship and fundraising to ensure all aspects of producing your projects are supported.
  • Participate in (and represent the company at) events, meetings, and other activities as necessary in the broader community. Includes items such as Dora registrations for home and  presenting touring companies.
  • Reconciliation:  collate reports for box office, budgets, payouts; write final reports for relevant granting bodies

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in producing performing arts
  • Experience working with CAEA, PACT and the CTA
  • Experience in Theatre Production an asset
  • Experience in Arts Marketing an asset
  • Ability to effectively execute initiatives end-to-end
  • Leadership mindset
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality
