RUTAS 2014

HOW WE LIVE TOGETHER

Aluna Theatre in partnership with Native Earth Performing Arts presents PANAMERICAN ROUTES / RUTAS PANAMERICANAS 2014 from May 15th, 2014 – May 27th, 2014.

“How we live together” is the concern embedded in our artistic practice at Aluna Theatre. As immigrants, newcomers and Canadians, we live on Turtle Island with the original peoples of this land and many others, from all over the world, with similar challenges. We are blessed to come together to share our knowledge, experiences and to envision a future; one that respects this beautiful land and that ensures a future for generations to come.

The incredible success of our inaugural festival in 2012 confirmed that artistic and socially engaging conversations from across the continent are vital to the healthy development of our societies and that Canada is a key component of the hemispheric experience, along with it’s environmental, social and financial development. We are all in this together.

We are honoured to partner with Native Earth Performing Arts to bring to you experimental, risk-taking, daring and political work from across the Americas in English and Spanish! Canadian, Indigenous and Latin Canadian artists will present work this year. What are these diverse artists saying, from all across the hemisphere, that speaks to us here in Toronto?

Our second International Festival of Theatre and Human Rights was presented in partnership with Native Earth Performing Arts and included:

– 4 Canadian and 4 International productions (Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Mexico/US)

– 8 emerging artists / companies who showcased works-in-progress

– A four-day, 8-session conference on performance and human rights

– 2 music concerts and 3 visual arts exhibits

– 6 master classes for Artists and Community groups
