RUTAS 2012: Panamerican routes

An international festival of theatre for human rights

Aluna Theatre presents the inaugural PANAMERICAN ROUTES / RUTAS PANAMERICANAS from May 15th, 2012 – May 27th, 2012.

Aluna hosts some of the most exciting intercultural and interdisciplinary theatre practitioners from the Latin American Diaspora. Joyful, thoughtful, angry, and passionate: these are the new voices of our Panamerican reality.

The whole continent is our home: this festival is our way of going beyond divisions and making connections. Interdisciplinary. From across the Americas. We are bringing great art and great minds together in debate about pressing and controversial issues, on stage and off.

The Mainstage Series connects Toronto to the Latin American Diaspora, fearaturing international artists like Loco7, Violeta Luna, and Carmen Aguirre

The Backstage Series is the laboratory for ambitious new works in the early phase of their staging by some of Canada’s most exciting new voices such as Rosa Laborde, Amaranta Leyva, and Emilie Monnet.

The Workshop Series brings international masters to lead classes in dance-theatre, puppetry, performance art and playwrighting with the Colombian Collective Creation approach.

A Conference on Performative Interventions in the Americas takes the stage in the final weekend, opening conversations among artists, activists, academics, and citizens about Theatre and Human Rights, hosted by professionals from a variety of backgrounds.
