Master Classes

Several of our visiting international artists will also be leading workshops and master classes while in Toronto. Spanish-English interpretation will be provided, making all classes accessible to both language groups.

 

Dramatizing Memory with Conchi León 

Conchi León, creator and director of Del Manantial de Corazón, leads a dramaturgical workshop that guides participants in an exploration of their personal stories and first memories through a performative lens. Working with George Perec’s practice, “I remember”, participants will generate stories, and then undergo a critical analysis of their writing in order to achieve a distance from their experiences, and re-position it as a form of dramatic literature that can be communicated with others. 

All disciplines & skill levels welcome, max 12 participants

Installation for the Human Body with Lukas Avendaño

Acclaimed Muxe performance artist Lukas Avendaño shares their tools for creation in this master class. They will lead participants through three modules of activities that explore theoretical and practical concepts organized under the umbrella ‘installation for the human body’, a term that Avendaño they coined to describe their own creation process, performative interventions and embodiments.

The Language of Dance with Wilson Pico

Wilson Pico, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and director leads this master class. Pico’s practice assumes the body as a stage for emotion and memory, with the dancer’s primary role being the identification of personal connections to both the movement and the scenic materials at their disposal. Participants will be led through a theory of exercises used by Pico in the creation of new material.
