The Cunning Linguist

“…You Diosito, you made me a Lesbian!”

The Cunning Linguist follows Monica, a young Mexican woman who realizes that God made her queer. What Monica sees as an honour, the culture around her condemns as wrong. Thanks to a TV show, Monica decides to move to Toronto. With God (Diosito) as her unlikely sidekick, she begins to learn more about loving herself, freedom and sex.

“I was brought into Buddies and Bad Times almost ten years ago as a director for the Creators Emerging Unit to work in something called the Cunning Linguist (I didn’t even know what it meant!  ). I walked into the rehearsal and Monica, this one-of-a-kind creator performer, begins to deliver a magical script, funny and so deep. I immediately knew I wanted to be part of this project way beyond the mentorship. Along the way we have created shorter versions of the play — and finally we are HERE!”
