Los Materiales de la Ira y el Amor (The Materials of Wrath and Love) is a triptych of female characters presented through the dances La Beata, Boca Ira and Mujer. In La Beata, the rigid expectations of a culturally dominant religion are explored. In Boca Ira, an embodied female moulds with remarkable plasticity into an expression of hunger. In the climactic Mujer, the feverish rhythm of Philip Glass’s score accompanies the artist in revealing 24 hours of a woman’s life and her personal history of oppression. The prolific Indigenous dancer and choreographer Wilson Pico makes his long-awaited return to Canada with this presentation.
