A very confused Chicho tries to be beautiful.
Battling an ugliness inside him, Chicho attempts to reconcile being queer, Venezuelan, and Catholic. Chicho, transforming for his audience, embodies the symbols and characters that have shaped his young adulthood. He asks questions that only lead to more questions. Spanglish, song, movement, stand-up comedy, embodied storytelling, and lecture-style projections all scramble together in one young, diasporic body.

About the artist
Augusto José Bitter Hurtado is a Venezuelan-born actor, mover, and writer based in Toronto. He has a Specialist in Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies from the University of Toronto and was named one of NOW Magazine’s Top Four young artists to watch in 2017. Augusto is a Youth Link Artist at Soulpepper Theatre Company, and a 2016-2017 member of Factory Theatre’s Mechanicals and Aluna Theatre’s Interpretation Lab. CHICHO has been developed in residence at Theatre Passe Muraille through support from Diaspora Dialogues. More at www.augustobitter.com
